Curtis

My name is Curtis Pulliam and I’m 19 years old. I’m from Oxford, Michigan, which is a small town in Oakland County, north of Detroit. I played baseball, football, and basketball in high school and work hard in learning about every sport.   My favorite team is the Detroit Tigers but I love watching every team. I currently attend the University of Detroit Mercy, working on my bachelor’s degree in communications and write for the school newspaper.

I have loved the game since I was 8 years old when I happened to meet good friends of mine to this day, the McCatty’s. Steve McCatty is a former major league pitcher and is a very honest and nice person. He introduced me to the game of baseball and I can’t ever thank him enough for that. His two sons, Shane and Luke, both still play baseball and I hang out with them often. I have learned so much from them about baseball and they are the reason I love baseball. We used to play in the backyard and always had a great time.

Another reason I love baseball is because of everything that is involved with the game. The hitter not only has to have a quick swing but he must use his brain to think about everything and every situation that might occur on one play. I love the feeling of being at the ballpark and thinking what a tradition it is to be watching a game that’s been around since the late 1800’s. I love seeing the home runs fly out of the park and the crowd going crazy and it just makes you feel like you are part of the team. I love trying to figure out the pitchers pitch sequence and guess what the next pitch is going to be. I love how in baseball you must have both physical and mental toughness to be a good player. I love the times I watched games with family and friends and we could reflect on our favorite moments. Most of all I love the feeling of nervousness come over you when the game is close in the bottom of the 9^th. To me, there is not another feeling like it in sports for either a player or a fan. The adrenaline that runs through your body is like no other feeling. That is the best feeling in the world and is why I love baseball.
