Not all hope is lost in Piston land

No matter how depressing the loss was Wednesday to the Milwaukee Bucks, the worst team in basketball mind you, it’s not all bad news in Auburn Hills.

Team USA released the 28-man USA Men’s National Team pool and it included our very own Andre Drummond.  The invitation allows for Drummond to compete for a spot on the 2014 World Championship team and the 2016 Olympic team.

“I am extremely honored to be selected along with this talented group of players for an opportunity to represent my country,” Drummond said to Pistons.com.  “I look forward to competing and representing our fans the right way.”

USA Basketball Chairman and National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo said that the National Team pool will remain fluid and he can add athletes at any time.  Drummond will have a good chance to gain valuable experience playing against the other big men in the pool such as Dwight Howard and Tyson Chandler, both gold medal winners.

Even if Drummond does not make the National team he will learn a lot from the time he spends with the USA players and coaching staff.  Any time a guy as young and still raw as Drummond gets a chance to have additional coaching and practice time, it can only make him a better player in the long run.  Detroit may not want a guy who has only gone through one full NBA season taking part in additional work after the season, the team is likely to only benefit from the additional training.

So what do you think Pistons fans, does Drummond have a good chance to make the National Team in 2014 or 2016, or is he just included in the National Team pool to prep for the 2020 Olympics?  Let us know at http://www.Detroitsportsbloggers.com,
