Michigan Avoids Huge Loss, State Rolls to Victory

Well the big talk of the day was the major scare that occurred in Ann Arbor as the Michigan Wolverines escaped with a 28-24 win over Akron.  Here is what senior All-American Taylor Lewan had to say about the almost disaster of a loss (from the Free Press).

““That is truly embarrassing for Michigan that we came out like that,” said Lewan, U-M’s offensive captain, repeating that loaded word. “It’s not fair to the fans, it’s not fair to the people who are associated with this program, it’s not fair to the freshmen who are not playing. This is the seniors’ fault, this is the captains’ fault.

“We will not come out like this again.”

Well for Michigan fans, it was a huge disappointment. Devin Gardner’s performance was probably the most concerning part. He here is what he had to say (Detroit Free Press).

“I talked to Tom Brady and he talked about being the best quarterback for the team every time out in practice and the game,” said Gardner, whose pick-six essentially turned a runaway into fourth-quarter drama for the second straight week. “I was not the best quarterback for this team today. It’s embarrassing. We’re going to respond, I can tell you that.”

All I can say I did not like this game one bit. The play for the Wolverines was atrocious and I hate the fact that all teams play way too many so-called “cupcakes” early on in the year. Michigan should have a tougher non-conference schedule.

As for “cupcakes” Michigan State beat down the Youngstown State Penguins, 55-17. It was a good team win for the Spartans and it looks like they may have found their starting quarterback in Connor Cook. Here is what coach Mark Dantonio said about that situation (Detroit Free Press)

“Connor Cook’s the No. 1 quarterback,” MSU coach Mark Dantonio said after the game, and asked whether the competition is ongoing, he said: “No, (he’s the) No. 1 guy.”

So now that the Spartans don’t have to worry about that for the time being, they can put all their attention on to the Fighting Irish. Can’t wait to see that game.
