The Detroit Red Wings got off to a hot start in yesterday’s playoff game against the Anaheim Ducks, scoring two goals with in the first five minutes of the first period.
In the third, the Wings were up 4-1 and seemed to have the game in hand. However, the Ducks were not going down easily. The Ducks came storming back to tie the game at 4-4 and sent into overtime. In the overtime, Gustav Nyquist received a great pass from forward Valtteri Flippula and put one passed Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller. Here is what head coach Mike Babcock had to say after the game.
“I thought tonight we were at times as frazzled as we’ve been in a long time,” Babcock said. “Guys want to win bad and get standing around watching instead of playing.
“It’s a good life lesson for our crew. We have lots of kids on our team. They’re not like veterans. It takes time for them to figure it all out. They’re figure it out and this will be a good thing.”
The Red Wings showed some resilience by winning this game and it was a huge win for them. They will now look to beat the Ducks with two games here at the Joe.
If the Wings can split the two games, I think they will be in decent shape. Obviously, the Wings would like to win both games in Detroit but realistically splitting the games would be just fine. But if they do that, the Wings will more than likely have to win game five to win the series. But that’s why yesterday’s game was so important. It should the Wings can compete and win in Anaheim. Although this a young Red Wings team, I still feel that this team can make some noise in the playoffs and have just enough veterans on this team to advance to the next round.
With that said, they need to take care of business at Joe Louis Arena first.
