With all of the excitement from the Opening week of Major League Baseball, it is almost forgotten around here that the Michigan Wolverines are in the Final Four! Saturday can’t get here soon enough with the Wolverines in the late game after Tigers baseball. But now, for the picks:
Louisville vs. Wichita State
I have been rooting for Wichita State since the beginning of the tournament and they have been impressive throughout the tournament. They are a very tough team inside and have played very well on both ends of the court and they looked like the best team coming out of the West bracket and deserve to be the Regional Champions.
As for Louisville, the number one overall seed has not disappointed, steam-rolling their way through the tournament. The closest game the Cardinals played was against 12 seeded Oregon in an eight point win, 77-69. Louisville has looked like they were the best team going into the tournament, and the best team remaining in the tournament.
As for this game, I think that it will be the closest game that the Cardinals have played in the tourney, but it will be more of the same. I think the Shockers will keep this game close for a majority of the contest but the talent of the Cardinals will shine through, and I’m taking Louisville.
Michigan vs. Syracuse
Syracuse dominated and confused number one Indiana in the Sweet 16, followed up with locking down Marquette to reach the Final Four. Actually Syracuse is giving up 45.75 points per game in the tournament, by far the best of the remaining teams in the Final Four. The 2-3 zone is proving to be very tough for teams that don’t see it very often, like Indiana.
Luckily for the Wolverines, coach John Beilein has faced the Orange and the 2-3 zone during his time at West Virginia. It won’t be a shock to him what Syracuse does defensively, and he won’t be completely overmatched like Tom Crean and Indiana. Michigan completely destroyed Florida to reach the Final Four after the amazing comeback against the Jayhawks in the Sweet Sixteen.
Trey Burke will be the best and most important player on the floor, but it is the ability of the other Michigan guards to move the ball around to attack the 2-3 zone. Syracuse is strong on both ends of the court, but I think that the Wolverines have the perfect mix of talent to exploit the zone and head to the National Championship game. I’m picking Michigan to win this game and move on to Monday.
So what do you think fans, is it going to be a Louisville/Michigan championship game or another combination? Let us know at DetroitSportsBloggers.com or on Facebook and Twitter.
