Only 6.5 games back.
That’s where the Detroit Pistons sit in the standings as of today. This is not the best spot to be in but I don’t think that it is insurmountable.
I believe the Pistons could make a run if they could play just a little better on the road. Many of their games after the All-Star break are on the road. I know they have had some tough luck losses while on the road but they have some talent that can steal a few games on the road.
While they are obviously far from being the best team in the league, I think they have a legit chance of making the postseason as an eight seed. They would need a lot of help along the way but I think they could make a run towards the playoffs.
However, in order to do that they will more than likely need to get a healthy Andre Drummond back in action. I feel like they have enough offense as well but they need to step it up on the defensive end.
Honestly, I don’t know if it is that big of a deal if they don’t make the playoffs because they will get a better draft pick. But I feel that it is a step in the right direction if they do happen to sneak in the NBA playoffs.
