Well, college football is back again and the Michigan Wolverines are looking to get back to a BCS game this season, year two of the Brady Hoke staff. The Wolverines schedule is difficult this season, but they should do well again this year.
Game 1: Vs. Alabama.
This will must likely be the toughest game of the year for the Wolverines. Bama is ranked #2 in the pre-season poll to start the year. However, Michigan is ranked #8 in the pre-season poll. It is also a neutral site game but is a longer trip for Michigan fans. Another thing that will be a factor is the availability of Michigan’s running back Fitzgerald Toussaint. He will not be able to play in the game. I think it will be a competitive game for a while but Bama will pull away. Mich: 0-1
Game 2: Vs. Air Force
I don’t know much about Air Force and I’m sure if I need to for this one. Although Michigan fans know you can’t take any opponent for granted in the NCAA but I don’t think the fans will have to worry in this one. Air Force did go 7-5 and to a bowl game last season, but should be no problem. Michigan should win, whether it be a blowout or a close one. Mich: 1-1
Game 3: Vs. Massachusetts
I don’t know much about Umass’s football program but I don’t think they will stand a chance against Michigan. Umass just join the FBS this season and will play in the MAC. Their opening game was last night, which they lost 37-0 to Uconn. Denard should have a big game and home field will play a role in the W. Mich: 2-1
Game 4: At Notre Dame
This game came down to the end last year with Michigan pulling out the victory in stunning fashion. Notre Dame went 8-5 last season and should be just as good this season. I believe this time it will be close again with the same team pulling out the victory but Notre Dame should give them a run for their money. Mich: 3-1
Game 5: At Purdue
The game will be tough just because it will be the second game on the road trip through Indiana. The Boilermakers didn’t do bad last year going 7-6 and winning a bowl game against Western Michigan. However, I don’t see them faring any better this season against Michigan. Mich: 4-1
Game 6: Vs. Illinois
The Wolverines easily handled Illinois last season 31-14. I don’t think Illinois have improved very much this off-season after going 7-6 overall last season and only 2-6 in conference. But you can’t take any game for granted. Look for Michigan to earn the win on Homecoming. Mich: 5-1
Game 7: Vs. Michigan State
This game will be very intense and hard-fought. Michigan State is hoping to build on an 11-3 record last year. Michigan is hoping to avenge the loss last year. But I think the rival is going to take the W in this one in Ann Arbor. Mich: 5-2
Game 8: At Nebraska
The Cornhuskers are usually a tough task and matchup for any team in any year, but year Michigan won 45-17. This year though, I think will be different and the game will be a lot closer. I feel like the Michigan offense will enough big plays to win the game. Mich: 6-2
Game 9: At Minnesota
The Wolverines beat the Golden Gophers 58-0 at home last season. If it is not close to the same score favoring Michigan, it will be a surprise to me. Look for big numbers from both Michigan’s offense and defense. Mich: 7-2
Game 10: Vs. Northwestern
The Wildcats of Northwestern always seems to be a pesky team inside the Big Ten Conference. The Wolverines defeated the Wildcats 42-24 last year and should do so again this year. Especially since the game is in Ann Arbor. Mich: 8-2
Game 11: Vs. Iowa
These last games are going to be very important to the 2012 Wolverines. The game against Iowa is important because Michigan will look to avenge a loss to the Hawkeyes last season. I believe that the Wolverines will pull the W off at home. Mich: 9-2
Game 12: At Ohio State
I’m calling it now. This will be the game of the Big Ten season. It will be going back and forth between the two bitter rivals. However, it is in Ohio this year and I could see this game going to either team. But I have to pick one team and I think the Buckeyes will come with just a tad bit more intensity. Mich: 9-3.
So overall I think Michigan will go 9-3 and be very competitive all year and could sneak in a win against one of the teams I picked them to lose against. It will be interesting to see if they can squeeze into a BCS bowl game.
