Heavy PPV card tonight for the UFC

On this holiday weekend we decided to take a little break from the Tigers (I am on vacation after all) and have decided to focus on other hobbies, such as the big MMA card tonight.

UFC 146 is promised to be a huge affair as the main-event card is filled with heavyweight fights.  Four of the top-10 heavyweights in the world are featured on a card with the Main Event between champion Junior Dos Santos against former champ Frank Mir.

Looking at the title fight I see it being short but could go either way.  JDS has the best hands in the heavyweight division, if not of all of MMA, but Mir is one of the best ground fighters in the UFC so a knockout or a submission early on would not be a surprise.

As for my prediction for the fight I think that JDS is going to retain the title by a second round knockout.  Mir proved in his fight against Brock Lesnar that he can take a beating, but I think that JDS will be too much for him to handle.  Dos Santos should retain, which could lead to a potential rematch against the man he won the title from…

…and that man is Cain Velasquez, the number two ranked heavyweight in the world is taking on Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in the co-main event.  Velasquez is seen as still the best heavyweight in the division, but his time off between fights made his ring rust obvious against JDS.

But standing between Velasquez and his title rematch is Big Foot Silva, a monster of a man standing 6’4″ and 264 pounds.  His last fights were in the Strikeforce Grand Prix as he shocked the world and defeated Fedor Emelianenko in the first round before falling to eventual champion Daniel Cormer.

For this fight I think that Velasquez is going to prove that he is one of the best in the world and will defeat Big Foot by a second round knockout as well.  Velasquez is too good and will dominate this fight.

With both JDS and Velasquez winning tonight some balance will be restored to the heavyweight division.  This has been one of the most volatile in all of MMA with the turnover amongst the top fighters in the UFC.

But with these two rising to the top it may create a good rivalry for a few fights to come.  Or with my history of predictions Mir may be fighting Big Foot for the heavyweight title later in the year.  We will find out tonight on PPV.
