Michigan State Lose in Sweet Sixteen

The mighty Spartans have fallen.

The Michigan State Spartans lost to the Louisville Cardinals tonight by a final of 57-44. Louisville will advance to play either Marquette or Florida.

As for the Spartans, the season will end tonight, finishing with a 29-8 record. They were co-champions of the Big Ten in the regular season and won the Big Ten Tournament, earning a number one seed for the NCAA Tournament.

However, the Spartans were the first one seed of the tournament to lose this year. It’s not much of a surprise, considering how they played tonight. The team did not shoot well at all, having a 28.6 shooting percentage from the field.

However, for all you Spartan fans out there, don’t be too discouraged about the last game of senior Draymond Green. Green’s overall numbers were solid, finishing with 13 points and 16 rebounds. The senior will now try his luck in the NBA Draft where he is projected to be an early 2nd round pick.

As for the rest of the team, Brandon Wood had a decent point total, leading the way with 14 points. But Louisville’s defense and clutch shooting was too much for the Spartans to handle.

In a tournament which the state of Michigan got three teams in, we now have to watch four Ohio teams compete in the sweet sixteen. Gives me chills.  But that’s ok cause there is always next year for the Spartans.
