A light day in Detroit sports as only the Wings are in action tonight as they try to get back on track against the Washington Capitals.
The Wings (44-24-4, 92) welcomed Pavel Datsuyk back to the lineup on Saturday against San Jose, they suffered more injuries as Johan Franzen missed the game and Darren Helm was injured during the game.
Franzen will again miss the game tonight while Helm is out for 4-6 weeks with a second degree MCL sprain according to Art Regner from Fox Sports Detroit.
These are just another rash of injuries for the Wings, but they are starting to healthy again as Nicklas Lidstrom is starting to come back from his ankle injury that has caused him to miss the longest streak of his career.
With the Wings losing 10 of 13 games, Detroit has slipped in to a tie with the Predators for fourth in the Western Conference and lost home ice advantage due to tie-breakers.
The Capitals (36-30-6, 78) are currently 8th in the Eastern Conference, but could are only down five points to the Panthers for the division lead that would move them up to third in the Conference.
Alex Ovechkin leads the Capitals with 54 points, by far a career low for the Russian superstar. His previous career low was 85 points last season and his 24 assists are 22 fewer than his career low.
Tomas Vokoun was signed on a one-year deal to hopefully be the missing piece to a championship and he is on par with his career averages. Playing on the best team of his career he should have much better numbers than he does, but so should every other player on this extremely talented team.
I see the Wings being able to scrape together some offense and pull out a victory. Babcock will get his troops ready and have the guys know what is at stake in the conference race, I see it being a 4-2 victory for Detroit.
