Weekend Preview 2.10.12

Due to some technology issues, the Weekend Preview video will not be done so I am going to write out what we thought of the big weekend in Detroit sports.

Later tonight, the Pistons host the New Jersey Nets and we both think that the Pistons are going to win this game.  The Nets bring in Deron Williams, one of the best point guards in the league, but he doesn’t have a supporting cast to win.  Detroit won in New Jersey on Wednesday and we think they can make it two in a row over the Nets and four in a row total.

Also tonight the Anaheim Ducks come to the Joe to face the Wings.  Anaheim has one of the best top lines in the league with Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and last seasons MVP Corey Perry but without a solid rest of the lineup the Ducks are sliding.  This will be Tomas Holmstrom’s 1,000 career game and will be the 1,549 for Nicklas Lidstrom, tying him for second on the Red Wings all time list.  We both think that this will be home win 19 in a row.

On Saturday is the big game of the weekend with #12 MSU heading to Columbus to face the #3 team in the nation Ohio State Buckeyes.  Curtis thinks that the Spartans are going to come out on top, but I disagree.  I think there will be too much Jared Sullinger for the Spartans to handle in the paint.  It should be a close game and one of the best of the weekend in any sport.

On Sunday, Illinois comes to #25 Michigan in a game I think that Michigan needs to win.  Curtis thinks that the Illini will come out on top, but I think that the Wolverines will win this game.  Michigan is really bad on the road, but has played well at home, and this should be the game to get Tim Hardaway Jr. back on track, and it should be a close game.

Sunday night the Washington Wizards come to the Palace to play the Pistons in another game that should be a victory for the home team.  John Wall is suffering from a sophomore slump and the Wizards are struggling because of it.  Flip Saunders has been fired as the head coach already and the team is free-falling to the basement of the East.  We both think the Pistons should come out on top and stretch the winning streak to five.

Finally, the Wings host the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday night in what should be one of the better hockey games of the season.  The Flyers bring in top scorer Claude Giroux along with Jaromir Jagr and the addition of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov has made the Flyers one of the best team in the Eastern Conference.  Without captain Chris Pronger the defense is not the same as past seasons and the goaltending is still shaky.  We think the Wings win at home again and should tie the record with consecutive home win number twenty.

That’s what we think the weekend will hold, feel free to tell us what you think in the comments below.  Hopefully next week technology will cooperate and we will have this in video form.  Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the games.
