This has been a fairly big week for Detroit Sports, especially the Detroit Red Wings. On Monday, the Wings set a franchise record by winning their 15th straight game at Joe Louis Arena. The previous record was held by the 1965 team who won 14 games at home.
In that game, Pavel Datsyuk had three assists on the night to earn the number one star. The number two star was forward Todd Bertuzzi, with a goal and two assists. Last but certainly not least was Jimmy Howard, who recorded a shutout with 27 saves.
This team is just as good as any other year. The Wings are now 18-2-1 at the Joe, which is arguably the best home record in the league. The team is fourth in the conference right now but only one point behind division leading Chicago. I believe this team will continue to win games and play better as the playoffs get closer.
Tuesday, the Michigan vs. Michigan State basketball rivalry was renewed. At least, that’s what I think. Tom Izzo’s interview the day before about not liking Michigan sparked the Wolverines to play a solid game, escaping with a win even though the Spartans didn’t play their best basketball. Both teams are solid and it will be a great matchup in East Lansing as Michigan goes for their fourth straight win in basketball over the Spartans. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
In a third and final note, the Cuban Centipede has been sweeping the nation. Just kidding, only our website but that’s ok because we have the latest update on him. According to this link, Cespedes told reporters that six teams have had interest in him. However, the team with the most is the Chicago Cubs. The other teams included the Tigers, Marlins, White Sox, Orioles, and Indians. It would be a big pick up for the Tigers because of Victor Martinez’s recent injury. We will keep you updated as much as we can throughout the entire process.
Also, make sure you check back later in the week for a possible new and exciting weekend preview.
