With the college football season between seasons right now, it is time to add college basketball to the weekend preview predictions.  It is that time of year and I couldn’t be more excited to watch the great season take place.  However, the end of the NFL regular season is also near.  It is a great time of the year for sports so let’s get to the predictions.

In the NFL, my most exciting game for the weekend would have to be the Green Bay Packers vs. the Oakland Raiders. The offenses for both teams can be high-powered and there is always a chance for this game to be a shootout.  However, more than likely this game will be a blowout by the Packers. Pick: Packers by 13.

My upset pick of the week is Carolina over Atlanta.  The Panthers are only 4-8 this season but they have a spectacular rookie in Cam Newton and they could pull this win out.  Atlanta really needs this win yet I believe Carolina will get the W. Pick: Carolina by 5.

As for our own Detroit Lions, they have a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. With Jared Allen talking smack about Detroit, it wouldn’t surprise me if this game gets chippy like the last two games for the Lions. However, the Lions better remain focused and get the win otherwise you can say goodbye to the playoffs.  With that being said, I think the Lions will do just that. Pick: Lions by 6.

As for local college hoops, Michigan State plays #22 Gonzaga at 9:00 pm on ESPN 2.  This should be a prime time matchup and I expect a pretty even game. Still, I think the Spartans will fall in this one but not by a lot. Pick: Gonzaga by 4.

The Michigan Wolverines will travel to the Palace of Auburn Hills to play the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.  Both teams are off to very good starts and this should be a high scoring game. A player to watch in this one is Oakland’s Reggie Hamilton. If he lights it up early and limits his turnovers, Oakland could pull this win out. However, I feel like Michigan has too much talent overall for Oakland to handle. Pick: Mich by 7.

Also going on this weekend, the Red Wings are playing the Winnipeg Jets at Joe Louis Arena for the first time in a while.  The Wings have been playing very well lately and this game should be a good one. Side Note: Yours truly might be attending this game. It should be a great atmosphere. Pick: Wings by 2.
