Weekend Preview 10/14

Although it is the middle of October, I am fortunate enough to be still talking about the Detroit Tigers being in the postseason. Game six will be very exciting and this has been one of the closest series I have seen in my life time. The pitching matchup for game six will be Max Scherzer against Derek Holland. I believe the Tigers have the edge going in to the game. Scherzer pitched well last time and the Tigers got runs off of Holland. However, for the Tigers to win game six, Scherzer must pitch well again and avoid Nelson Cruz. Also, Austin Jackson must make something happen on offense. If the Tigers do win game six, I really like their chances of winning in game seven, with Fister being on the mound.

But over shadowing the Tigers comeback attempt this weekend is the college football matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans.  Both teams are ranked and the game will take place in East Lansing. The Spartans have won the last three years and are ranked #23 on the year. The Spartans statistically have the best defense in the nation (giving up only 173.4 yards per game) but Michigan will be by far the most explosive offense they will have seen on the year so far. The Wolverines are averaging 38.0 point per game and 457.5 yards per game on offense. The game will be very close but to all the Spartan fans out there I think the winning streak will end. Pick: Michigan by 7. P.S. I will be there.(First time going to this game and Spartan Stadium.)

I believe another fun game to watch will be Texas A&M vs. Baylor. I could see this game being an offense shootout and exciting to watch. If I had to pick this game I would take Baylor by 5.

My upset this week in college football is Mississippi State over South Carolina. South Carolina has had some problems at the quarterback position and it will be interesting to see how they respond to it. The Bulldogs are desperate for a win and I could see then pulling this off at home. Pick: Miss. St. by 4.

In the NFL, I really like a couple of matchups. One will take place right here in the Motor City has the undefeated Detroit Lions will take on the 4-1 San Francisco 49ers. Two teams that have a few things to their fans and the rest of the NFL. I believe however, that the Lions will move to 6-0 and keep the magic alive. Pick: Lions by 6.

Another matchup that could be exciting to watch would be New England vs. Dallas. I would watch this game because I feel points will be coming with ease against both the teams. I really like New England to win this game by 8.

My upset of the week: I like the Carolina Panthers to win in the Georgia Dome and beat the Atlanta Falcons. For this to happen, Cam Newton will have a big game and lead his team to victory. Pick: Panthers by 3.

Hope everyone has a sports filled and safe weekend. For me, I will be doing just that and enjoying life, like we all should.
