Weekend Preview 9/23

The weekend is the best part of the week and this weekend is just another great one in Detroit Sports.

The Detroit Tigers are playing their final home stand of the year. On Saturday, Justin Verlander is going for his 25th win of the season and he would become the first pitcher since Bob Welch did it for the Oakland A’s in 1990 when he went 27-6. Also, look for the Tigers to be competing for home field advantage in the next few games so make sure you tune in this weekend.

The Michigan Wolverines play another game at the Big House as they face the San Diego State Aztecs. The Wolverines look to improve to 4-0 on the year but the Aztecs look to upset the Wolverines and their former coach Brady Hoke. I think the Aztecs will keep the game close and entertaining but I believe the Wolverines will be 4-0 and the end of the day. Michigan by 7.

Next, the Michigan State Spartans face the Central Michigan Chippewas. State is coming off a big loss to Notre Dame and looks to rebound against Central. Central is also coming off a huge loss to Western Michigan. However, I feel the Spartans will handle the Chippewas with no problem. Spartans by 10.

The most exciting matchup in college football this week: Oklahoma State at Texas A&M. Look for it to be a very high scoring and competitive game. I think the Aggies will defend their home field.

The upset of the week: Clemson over Florida State. The Tigers are playing at home and Florida State is coming off of a big loss at home. Look for the Tigers to steal the victory.

As for the Detroit Lions, they travel to Minnesota to play the 0-2 Vikings. The Lions are rolling but the Vikings should be a desperate team in this game. The Lions haven’t won in Minnesota since 1997. However, I believe that the Lions will win and start 3-0 for the first time since 1980. Lions by 6.

Most exciting matchup in the NFL: Greenbay vs. Chicago. This is a classic battle and should provide some great game play. Packers by 7.

Upset of the week: Colts over Steelers. Call me crazy but I have a hunch the Colts could come out fired up and steal this game. The Steelers beat a bad Seahawks team that is struggling but they will have to face a tough Sunday night crowd. I think Colts win by 3.

Make sure you tune in to your favorite teams and have a safe and happy weekend.
