OK, Lions fans, that was a big win on Sunday over the Chiefs but we need to pump the brakes a little bit on the bandwagon. The Lions may have the second longest winning streak in football at six games only to the ten wins by the New England Patriots.
Yes, we are tops in the league in both points scored and allowed, but folks it’s only been two weeks. Jim Schwartz has had the highest approval rating for the past two weeks partly because of the victories, but also because the Schwartz isn’t satisfied with two wins.
After the victory over the Buccaneers he blasted his team for making stupid plays and dumb penalties that helped keep Tampa in the game. In the game with the Chiefs, Lions fans finally got to experience what it is like to watch the other team completely implode right before our eyes.
But this team still has a few things to improve on before I personally start throwing them into the playoffs like many other have already. First, without Jamaal Charles being injured in that game, the result would have been much, much different. Charles was lighting up the run defense and would have had a huge day on the ground if not for the horrible injury.
With the speed back gone, the Lions were able to contain the slower Thomas Jones and then let Kansas City defeat themselves with costly penalties six turnovers. Kansas City was nowhere near as good as their 10-6 record last season suggested, and neither was the Buccaneers.
The first real test of the season is coming up when the Lions travel to Minnesota to face Adrian Peterson and the best pass rush they have seen this season. This is that game every season that we shouldn’t really lose but always find a way to do it, but if the Lions are able to leave Minny with another victory and Stafford is unharmed, then the sky is the limit.
