Over the weekend, Detroit sports provided many fans with amazing excitement. Not only did the Lions and Tigers both win on the same day since September 30, 2007, but the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans both were victorious.
First, on Saturday the Spartans destroyed Florida Atlantic 44-0. The green and white dominated in every phase of the game and look like the number 17 in the country. Everything seems to be going well in East Lansing.
In Ann Arbor on Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines completed an unbelievable comeback by scoring 28 points in the fourth quarter to stun Notre Dame 35-31. The winning touchdown came with a two seconds left on the Big House clock and over 114,000 people went crazy. It was truly a site to see and I was glad I tuned in.
Starting at the same times, The Lions and Tigers both did the same thing, win. The Lions were a little rusty in their season opening win against the Buccaneers, but it was still a great game. Matthew Stafford looked good with three touchdowns and the defense looked like they were playing with a different intensity than normal.
However, I feel that the biggest win of the weekend came at Comerica Park on Sunday. Jose Valverde became the Tigers all-time single season save leader with 43. The offense has been on fire and it has been great watching the Tigers over this whole season. The current nine game winning streak has been against the most important opponents of all, A.L. Central division.
It has been a great week to be a Detroit sports fan and the following weeks seem as though they will be even better.
