Now that every team has cut their rosters down to 53, some interesting players were out in the free agent market. After still reeling from the season-ending injury to Mikel Leshoure, GM Martin Mayhew may have found his power back in newly claimed Keiland Williams.
Williams rushed for 261 yards in 15 games and caught 39 passes for 309 yards in 15 games with the Redskins last season. Coach Schwartz had nothing but praise for Williams in talking to Mlive.com:
“We like his skill set… he’s still a young player. The Redskins went out and got (Tim) Hightower this year and he sort of got edged out in that (competition). I think we were very lucky to get him.”
The Redskins were using Williams more in a fullback role with the addition of Tim Hightower. Time will tell how the Lions plan on using Williams with Harrison and Best already on the roster.
Most writers seem to think that Jahvid Best would be unable to handle the feature-back position so who will handle most of the carries in the backfield? With the regular season starting in less than a week it looks like only time will tell.
