Weekend Preview 9/2

What a great weekend to start off the month of September.  College football is here once again and it looks to be another action packed year. The Michigan State Spartans will start the brand new season tonight at home against the Youngstown State Penguins.

This is the first ever meeting between the two teams. Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio was an assistant at Youngstown when the now former Ohio State head man Jim Tressel was the head coach for the Penguins. This year’s opening game shouldn’t be too hard for the 17th ranked Michigan State as I see them winning by 21 points at least in this matchup.

Another college football game taking place this packed weekend will be the Michigan Wolverines facing the Western Michigan Broncos. Michigan has gotten a lot of attention heading into the new year because of the new coach, Brady Hoke. Hoke is looking to establish the winning tradition at the university but will have to overcome the tough Broncos. It all will depend on the play of the Wolverine defense, which should be better than last year’s version. Look for Michigan to win this game.

And last but not least, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tiger’s will be going for win 21 on the season. He will face a tough White Sox lineup who have been playing well of late. However, I feel JV will get win 21 and go six innings with one or two earned runs and about 8 strikeouts.

Cant wait to watch him pitch tonight because as Rod Allen says, “JV is must see TV.”
