Last night was a big step in the right direction for Detroit sports. The Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians by a score of 4-1. Tonight they will play again at 7:05. The pitching matchup will be Doug Fister for the Tigers and David Huff for the Indians. Last night’s game however was a big win for the Tigers.
Max Scherzer came up big for the Tigers last night. He showed that he can pitch well in big games and be the number two that the Tigers need when or if the post-season comes around. He gave up only one run on a wild pitch and got out of jams when he had to. He pitched a solid seven innings. The Tigers also got a spark from center fielder Austin Jackson, who hit a two-run home run to give the Tigers enough offense to win the game. Alex Avila and Johnny Peralta added solo shots for the Tigers. Last night’s game was a big win for the Tigers and looks to be a good sign moving towards the post-season.
For the other Cleveland vs. Detroit matchup, the Lions beat the Browns 30-28. It was a little bit of a sloppy effort for the Lions but there were some positives from the game. All the quarterbacks looked good and the offensive flowed at times. The receiving group played well also. The Lions were down 21-13 at half but came back to win with the third group of players. Drew Stanton played decent and the Lions completed the comeback to improve to 2-0 in the pre-season.
Overall, I feel like the Tigers are going to stay on top in the A.L. Central and the Lions are moving in the right direction. Last night was a great sign for the future of both teams.
