Injuries hit the Lions hard and previewing the Preseason opener

Lions rookie second-round pick, running back Mikel Leshoure, tore his Achilles tendon and will now miss the remainder of the season.  This is a huge blow to the Lions who are already without first-round pick Nick Fairley due to foot surgery.  As an attempt to try to replace Leshoure, the Lions signed free agents Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell to back up Jahvid Best this season.  Harrison and Bell are fine players, but the Lions lost out on a chance to get a legit second back when Ricky Williams picked the Ravens over coming to Detroit.  Williams signed with the Ravens the same day that Leshoure was injured, but Ricky decided that Baltimore was a better chance to win a Super Bowl.

Finally, football is back on the field with the preseason kicking off on Thursday.  The Lions host the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, we finally get to see a taste of the team that is seemingly everyone’s dark-horse to make the playoffs.  The Bengals are coming in to the season with a brand new offense with rookie Andy Dalton starting at quarterback, and no Chad Ochocinco or Terrell Owens.  Look for both teams to come out hitting hard, as it is the first time they get to take a shot at someone who isn’t wearing the same color as they are.  It is hard to predict a preseason game, but all Lions fans are hoping for the same thing, no injuries.
