Tiger’s Last Stand?

While the Detroit Tigers had a busy weekend with acquiring two young pitchers and almost getting into a brawl on Sunday, I have decided to write (based on a special request from a reader), an entry on the best golfer of his time and another Tiger, Tiger Woods.

Woods, who is now 35 years of age, will make another come back after being out 11 weeks with left knee and Achilles injuries.  This was a quote he used today at his press conference.

“The great thing is I don’t feel a thing,” Woods said of his left leg. “It feels solid, it feels stable, no pain. That’s one of the reasons why I took as long as I did to come back is that I want to get to this point where I can go ahead and start playing golf again like this. It’s been a very long time, and it feels good to go out there today and hit balls like this, go practice and feel nothing and walk around and pretty much do anything I want on the golf course.”

Of course we all know what happened with him and his ex-wife but lost in all that was the fact his golf game seem to have disappeared during that time as well.  Was it the personal issues getting to him on the course? Or was it the injuries hampering his success on the links? Well, I say we will found out this week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Woods has a history with the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.  He is a four-time winner of the Invitational in 05′, 06′, 07′, and 2009.  He seems to play excellent at the course and he says he feels great.  It will be interesting to see how well he plays and if he can put the past behind him.  The other players should watch out for him because when he is playing at his best, he is no doubt the best player in the world.

However,  it will take a lot of mental strength from Woods.  He appears to have the divorce and all of that behind him.  The man has been playing golf since he was two years old and he belongs on the course.

He says that he feels good and has no pain.  The biggest thing for Woods though is belief.

He has told the fans many things that they didn’t believe and he isn’t the best at giving apologizes.  Yet the only person that has to believe himself is him.

Just like a kid around Christmas, if he believes then he is capable of receiving the winner’s trophy this coming weekend and in future majors, ultimately, revamping his storied career.
