Mags Needs to Go and Other Tiger Thoughts

I usually don’t do two post in one day but this is something that can’t go on any longer.  Magglio Ordonez  needs to be removed from the Tigers lineup. For good. This is my rant.

I’m not the type to sit there and call out one player for a team’s performance but I have had enough of his terrible at-bats.  Watching today’s game and his hitting made me sick to my stomach.

The stats back me up on this one as well.  Magglio is hitting an awful .229 with just a .293 on-base percentage.  Today, he went 0-5 with a GIDP (grounded into double play), and a 0-3 with runners on base.  Way to go Mags, what a number three hitter you are, not.

His three home runs and 16 runs batted in will not be good enough for the Tigers to win anything, especially if they keep putting him in the three spot.  I have just had it with his first pitch swinging also.  He only saw 14 pitches today.

I never thought I would say this but I would rather see Ryan Raburn up there swinging.  At least he has nine home runs and 32 RBI’s.  I know not all people would agree but at least Raburn can play solid defense.  Magglio can’t even run down the base path with any speed either.

Listen, I was all for the Magglio signing back in 2005 but his time is up.  He had some great years and at-bats for the Tigers and is a career .309 hitter.  I respect him for all he’s done for the Tigers and he will always be remembered for his 2006 home run.  But at age 37, it’s time to send him down next to Brandon Inge.

As for other news, pitcher Brad Penny and catcher Victor Martinez were yelling at each other today and pitching coach Jeff Jones had to separate them.  Penny said it was about the signs called by Martinez and Martinez didn’t want to talk about the matter.

Jim Leyland was ejected today and that is the fourth time in the last month he has been tossed.  Good to see at least one member has some intensity while being a part of the game.

If the Tigers want to win, they must get rid of Mags and I hope they can figure out a way to stay focused and not fight teammates.

But in the meantime, I’m going to be intrigued to watch how the next games leading up to the trading deadline play out.

You couldn’t be more wrong on the issue… mags is batting over .300 since coming back from the DL. He also had a 11 game hit streak that just came to an end. One game doesn’t mean he is washed up and if anyone says Ryan Rayburn is a starter in the MLB right now is out of their mind.

Dude I’m not saying Raburn is a quality replacement but mags will not bat over .250 for the season so I’m saying Raburn could do that for cheaper.

I kind of agree with both of you. If Mags is going to stay in the lineup, he needs to be moved down right now. Avila and Boesch should be hitting 2 and 3 in front of Cabrera and Magglio should be hitting closer to 7th. Leyland’s love-affair with Mags is going to cost them if he stays in the top half of the order. I don’t hate either Raburn or Mags, I just wish they’d go ruin somebody else’s favorite baseball team.
